"…I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart." ~Anne Frank
I think of this quote often when I've de-escalated from a tense disagreement or when I've found myself thinking or speaking negatively about someone. It's easy for emotions to get out of hand and prejudices to form when a wrong is committed. Anne Frank's words represent optimism and faith in humanity, especially given her bleak situation.
We parents need to remember this as our kids act up and and every-which-direction. I'm finally learning to remember, before it's too late and I lose my cool, that kids want to make noise and be silly, and that maybe my wanting the opposite of those things most of the time should not cause me to assume they are wild devils. They may act like it once in a while, but their hearts are good.
