Crisp

We are blessed yet again with a small window of perfect weather in Minnesota. Crisp mornings, warm breezy days, calm evenings. But we're not the only ones. Hawkeye Razorback in Arkansas has written a letter to autumn. One Shutter Sister in California has learned to welcome it. I never gave it much thought, to be honest, but after finally drying up after the recent humid summer my body feels refreshed, not to mention lighter, and I must say I'm loving it.

In very fall-ish fashion we paid a visit to our local orchard to pick a few pounds of crisp fruit and play on the straw bales (it's straw, not hay). Most of the apples were not quite ready to be picked, but we had fun wandering the grounds. To our kids it seemed just as easy to pick from the thousands of apples already lying (decomposing) on the ground, but we encouraged them to pick the more appealing fruit still attached to the tree.

Mind the weather

This is too ironic: I was just about to post a rant about how I'm growing weary of the cold temperatures and snow in Minnesota and how this is the first year the weather has "gotten to me." It was to be accompanied, longingly, by this photo of palm trees and blue sky in Long Beach, California. Just before publishing, a song by Death Cab For Cutie started to play on the radio:

"I don't mind the weather  /  I've got scarves and caps and sweaters  /  I've got long johns under slacks for blustery days"

Let's get one thing straight…negative 30 degree wind chill is beyond blustery. But the lyrics were a sort of a mood-kill for my post and I immediately lost my train of thought. It's probably not worth complaining about anyway. Keep warm, readers.
